How consistency and determination earns you respect and even fanship
It has been a long while since I have wrote a story on medium. This is partially that I have moved most of my blog post to my own website www.goingmeraki.com. I wanted to have the flexibility to design and create my own website and flex my creativity.
This is not really a post of my past experience in getting from non-technical role to technical role but rather stemming on my experience that won quite a number of strangers’ admiration.
I have been posting consistency on my blog on how to navigate to learning new craft and embracing new experience. I have also moved on to experiment on youtube as well. Youtube is really challenging as there are more effort to put into the whole production. For me, I did not not want to post videos that are of sub-par quality. At least, I should try my best to produce quality content and the result speaks for itself.
Many times my friends often asked me how do you actually manage all these, making so much time after work, during weekends to pursue my interests and always learning and acquiring new experience. I guess this is a drive that keeps me going and I highly encourage everyone to embrace such mentality.
Maybe this works well for me as I feel a great sense of satisfaction of completing and finishing a product even I may know that it will not gain traction. I have started on photography instagram page @fotoaffairs to work on a new side of me. I would say that I want to work not only the technical side but also the creative side of me. I believe that you can always explore and be good in anything as long you put effort in your interests.
After months of documenting my journey, unknowingly it caught traction on Linkedin.com, a professional social media platform and I started to have fans of my blog articles. I was really encouraged when they engaged me to ask for advice and help in their career development, even though I would consider myself no where near successful in the career perspective.
As months go by, I do try to improve my content, quality of it and I did invest in some equipment to help with my workflow. I think all these is really great experience and it did help to increase some visibility of my work. What’s more important is that I keep going, I did see quite a number of people starting to drop out when they are not seeing any success or when their post or video not going viral. I gotta admit it is as discouraging when I feel it myself but I have been consistent on delivering. I guess we should set realistic expectations and understand that it takes time for your work to get noticed.
I am not a superstar in anything but a few fans of my work really made me want to do for the community out there. It is a great learning experience for me and I believe that I can deliver more in years to come. Just keep striving and eventually you will see results reeling in.
Have a happy weekend!
